I am planning to make a new musical
instrument that my robots can play.
I have already made a turtle shape
musical instrument.
It is little bit large, so I am going
to make smaller one.
Turtle-pan has 13 shells, which covers
13 notes of one octave.(C,C#,D ...B,C)
This time it will be ladybug shape
which has 7 black circles.
It will covers 7 notes such as
C,D,E,F,G,A,C.
There are some songs that can be
played 7 or less notes such as twinkle
twinkle little star.
Two speakers would be placeed on the
side, and arduino and AMP will be
placed inside the body.

メイカーフェスティバル in 鳥取大学
I
participated in the maker festival
held at Tottori University, Japan.
I has participated the Maker Festival
in Tottori since the first event, and
this is the third year.
Tottori is famous for its sand dunes.
Mr. Yoshida made a big craftel and
made it walk in the dunes.

I am
going to make a new robot based on the
hand-held fan.
“Mimizu-kun” created this year for
carrying, but it ’s hard to take it
out of the backpack at the exhibition
hall and hold it in my hand when I
take pictures.
I need something that is lighter,
smaller, and easier to put in and out
of the bag. However, I also need a
robot with LEDs for good photo.
Therefore, I designed a hand-held fan
as a robot that has ring LED and
waving hands with servo.
For example, you can take it to an
event venue and take pictures, or you
can use it as a hand-held fan when it
is hot.
At night events such as fireworks, you
can fully demonstrate the power of
glitter.
If you shake this instead of Psyllium
at the concert venue, you will
definitely stand out.
There are two ways:
(1) Putting the robot's on a
commercially available hand-held fan
(2) Making a robot-type fan from the
scratch.
(1) is cheaper and easier if I want to
sell it as a product, but there are
some problems.
Since it is necessary to take the
power supply of LED and servo from
somewhere,
naturally it is better to share it
with the fan. However, this requires
modification, so it would conflict
with concept of easily put it on.
Some handheld fans have a mobile
battery function, but the fan doesn't
seem to be able to turn while it is
being used as a battery. . .
When going by (2), it is possible to
use a FAN for a personal computer that
the robots of the robot band are
wearing on the chest,
but the problem is that the wind power
is weak. I think that the cylindrical
battery used in “Mimizu-kun” suite for
this project because it looks like
just a FAN handle.
What to do now. . .
In either case, the servo must be
controlled by a small controller such
as arudino nano.
Two PWM outputs are required to move
the hands, and three to move the head.
There is a small controller for ring
shaped NeoPixel on the chest, but if I
can use the library, I think it's more
fun to control it from arudino nano.
(The eye-light of “Mimizu-kun” uses
the library to change the lighting
pattern with arudino uno.)
One of the five robots in the robot
band can perform fortune-telling.
When a visitor presses the button, the
result of fortune-telling is written
on paper with a brush.
Results are,
大吉 - Excellent luck
吉 - Good luck
中吉 - Fair luck
小吉 - A little luck
末吉 - Uncertain luck
凶 - Bad luck
大凶 - Worst luck
It is Japanese traditional, but uses
Chinese characters for results.
For this reason, explanation is not
necessary in China.
In the United States ,India, or other
area, there are few people who can
read Chinese characters, so
explanation is necessary.
If the robot is not in good condition,
it may write different characters.
For example, "犬吉" (whitch means dog
luck) is used instead of "大吉", but it
is not noticed in areas where Chinese
characters cannot be read.
Results of fortune-telling are random,
but anyone cares about the results.
At the Children's Castle, about 2
years ago, there was a child who got
"Bad Luck" cryed and cryed.
The same child came to Science Festa
last Sunday, and this time she got
"Excellent Luck".

三重こどもの城
My robots joined Science Festa at Mie
Childrens Castle last Saturday.
There are three types of places where
robots are exhibited and performed.
One is maker event such as Maker
Faire.
The other is events at science museum
where children gather.
The last one is playing drums at
Tatami Band concert.
I think it is important to have
exhibitions in different places other
than the maker event.
Because different people come to
different places.
For example, familys with small
children come to the Childrens castle.
Such exhibitions are often together
with the STEM workshop,
which have led children to become
interested in programming and robots.

コミケ
Comic Market(Comiket) is a kind of DIY
event by independent comic and light
novel writers.
Comiket can be said to be the origin
of Japanese DIY event.
Comiket was held at the same venue as
the Maker Fair.
However, visitors are many times more
than the maker fair.
Admission is free, but it took three
and a half hours to enter today.

Maker Faire Tokyo
I have been exhibiting at the Maker
Fair Tokyo since 2015.
Since then, I have been pursuing the
world of fantasy robots.
I wanted to display with different way
this year.
So I applied for an exhibition in the
darkroom.
The darkroom is in a separate
compartment and is often overlooked.
I knew visitors would be less, but LED
illuminated robots in the dark room
are more attractive.
Fortunately, there were canceled
groups, so three groups were able to
share the large room.
I will apply for a dim space next
year.
This year, due to the Tokyo olympic
next year, Maker Faire Tokyo is
smaller than other years.
Maker Faire is having financial
problem in these days.
When I joined Maker Faire Shenzhen
2016, I met the founder of Maker
Faire. He found that I made original
carry case for flight, and he said
"you are a good maker". Size of case
is limited for flight, so I made boxes
with cardboard as large as I could.
Since then I like him.
Since Maker Faire Shenzhen is free
entrance, I asked him
"Why Maker Faire Tokyo
is not free." If it was free, more
people would come. His answer is just
"People would pay it."
Now I know it is difficult to run such
a large event without entrance fee in
Japan. Maker Faire Bay Area was more
expensive, but people paid it. And it
is still difficult to run without
Sponsors support.
Getting money indicates that we are
doing has some meaning.
For myself, I am trying to make
something to sell although my
exhibition is for free so far.
Another good thing to have
exhibitions is meeting people. I met
many people from other countries
with the maker events.
Japan-Korea relationship is getting
worse.
This time I met a student from Seoul
who is helping Craftel booth. He is
good guy and I think it was
necessary to think about it when he
come to Japan. Many Koreans are
hesitant to come to Japan now. I
hope Japan-Korea relationship will
get better by Maker Faire Soul next
year .
My robots joind Maker Faire Tokyo last
week end. Recently, we have something
like parades at maker events in Japan.
Makers who wear shining things or
costumes gather.I think Mr. Suzuki,
the skeleton guy, started at last
year's Maker Fair Tokyo.
Although it was unofficial, many
people gathered this time.
Music is necessary for the parade. If
there is no sound, it becomes a
strange group just walking around.
This time there were people playing
rhythms with electronic sounds. But I
think we need more of sounds next
time. This time I added samba music to
the video. I hope we could have a
parade like this.
