This video is from Kyoto University
Student Festival, three years ago.
In this video, a robot plays video
game "Taiko Master".
Usually it uses drum interface, but I
made a new interface with buttons.
The player has a robot controller and
he/she controls robot to push buttons.
This causes some delays and it makes
the game more difficult.
I'm trying to get robots to do a lot
of things humans do, and this is one
of them.

Robot Family Episode 13 "Some things money just
can't buy."
This
story is about money.
The Japanese government decided to pay
100,000 yen ($850) uniformly to the
citizens due to the corona turmoil.
It seems that the same uniform
benefits are being provided overseas.
You can buy a lot of things if you
have money, but some things cannot be
bought with money.
For example, people's thoughts and
feelings.
I
wanted to try a basket, but found that
the servo wasn't fast enough to throw
the ball. Too bad. . .

Fortune-telling robot
This is an introduction to the robot
fortune-telling.
There is a fortune telling in Japan
called Omikuji.
You pick up a paper lot from box at a
shrine or temple, the fortune of that
person is written.
Results are Dai-kichi(large good
luck), Chu-kichi(middle good luck),
Sho-kichi(small good luck), Kichi(good
luck), Sue-Kichi(last luck), Kyou (bad
luck), Dai-kyou(worst luck).
The robot uses a brush to write
results on paper.
Since the child who caused the deadly
cried out with the worst luck, I tried
not to let the worst luck and the bad
luck come out much.
It's popular and can be crowded at the
event, but it's a pity that there
isn't an opportunity to exhibit it for
the time being.
In Chinese, the meaning of letters of
result seems to be the same as
Japanese, and people can understand it
in China and Taiwan without
explanation.
(Japanese uses Chinese letters but
sometimes, they have different
meanings.)
In the United States and India, where
Chinese letters are not known, I put
explanation panel.
But it is necessary to tell about the
result, Good luck or bad luck at every
time.
On the other hand, the arm's servo was
not working well and It wrote "Inu-kichi"
(Dog good luck) instead of "Dai-kichi",
no one did not notice it.

Good
luck, bad luckなどどれだったのかを教えてあげる必要があります。
半面、腕のサーボの調子が悪く「大吉」でなく「犬吉」を連発していましたが、誰にも何も言われませんでした。

Matryomin is a kind of theremin in the
form of matryoshka.
Theremin is an electronic musical
instrument born in Russia.
It can be played by holding hands over
the instrument.
I made the robot play " Charamela"
(Japanese song?) with Matryomin.
Depending on the material of the metal
rod in robot's hand, the sound
reaction differs. The tones are barely
three notes, Do,Re,Mi, but other
materials may expand the note range.

Robot Family - episode 12 "Sports is hard."
(English Version)
In Japan, where corona infection is
spreading, there is a debate over
whether life or economy should be
prioritized.
If we refrain from going out, economic
activity will be sluggish.
If we go out, the infection will
spread.
This episode, it is a story that the
viewpoint changes if the position is
different.
When the robot exercises, its
performance does not improve, it only
deteriorates.

Steam punk band
With
this configuration, I plan to make
robots ensemble. Metallophone, bass,
bells.
Since the program part starts from
scratch, it will take some time.
I tried
to make a robot standing and swing,
but it was difficult.
A humanoid type robot couldn't
maintain its upright standing position
(The rope becomes slanted), so I
changed to a panda with a low center
of gravity, but it was still
difficult.
I will try again someday.

Robot Family Episode 11 "The virus is scary." (English version)
Robot Family is a skit about everyday
life of robot parents and children.
The series of videos I have been
making since 2015, most of the stories
are in Japanese.
This time, I also made a translated
version of English.
My English may not be correct, but it
should be possible to make sense.
If you are a native speaker and find a
mistake, please let me know.

うちで踊ろう 星野源
"Dancing On The Inside" is a song by
Japanese singer "Gen Hoshino".
The Japanese government has requested
people to refrain from going out due
to the worldwide outbreak of the new
coronavirus. This song calls on the
Japanese people to stay still at home
and was posted on Instagram and
youtube.
In the comments section of the video,
Hoshino encouraged other users to
collaborate in a stack of videos,
songs, musical instruments, and dance.
This is
may secret studio near Kyoto.
I put my works here. The production
tools and machines are put in my house
in Kyoto.
Japanese maker and foreign visitors
who want to see the studio are welcome
(after the Coronavirus uproar).
I can't participate in the event from
now on, so I will shoot and distribute
the video here.
The Steampunk Band will be formed by
three robots with a metallophone, bass
and drums. Metallophone is a
gear-shaped instrument that I posted
earlier. The bass is the instrument in
this video. Drums will be created.
The bass instrument had white silicon
strings in the previous photo. They
are replaced with black nylon strings.
The screws use normal screws, but I
will also replace them with black
screws.
Robot plays it by hitting strings, so
I named it Percussive Bass.
Although the tuning is slightly off,
it is playing "When The Saints Go
Marching In".
The sound is picked up using piezo. If
I use 100V power supply from outlet,
there will be severe noise. Noise does
not disappear even if the power supply
of the amplifier is a battery. The
power supply of the robot is
independent of the power supply of the
amplifier and should have nothing to
do with it, but replacing it with a
battery eliminated the noise.
The
gear-shaped instrument, which was
announced beginning of this year is
almost completed. I'm going to name it
Gear-phone.
In the automatic performance by the
robots made so far, the instrument
follows the conventional instrument
such as Metallophone and electronic
drums, and humanoid robots play by
moving their limbs.With Gear-phone,
not only robots but also the musical
instrument itself moves. With this
mechanism, the position of the struck
is less likely to shift. In addition,
since the plate turns sideway due to
rotation, it is okay if the mallet is
slightly shift. The number of notes
has doubled, but the sound is smaller
because the plates are small.
I'm going to make Steampunk Band that
performs automatically like Robot
Band. Currently, there are three
steampunk-style robots, Steampunk-kun,
Steam-panda, and Mimizu-kun. I'm going
to add a new robot "Petit Tomato" and
those four robots perform music
automatically. I think it will be
easier to carry because the steampunk
band is one size smaller than the
robot band.

current view of the venue of Maker

There is almost no sign of people as
usual.
